Deprival of basic facilities to Koragas stun officials

A delegation of Zilla Panchayat, led by Chief Executive Officer Dr K N Vijayprakash visited Chelyaru Gram Panchayat limits in Surathkal on Friday.

The Koraga colony here has been smothered due to lack of infrastructure facilities. The stalk deprival of even basic facilities left the Zilla Panchayat top brass stunned.

The CEO responding to this, took officials concerned to task for keeping him under darkness. He asked the Health, Social Welfare Department officials to remain in the colony on Friday, collect details and submit details to him. He asked them to visit the Colony frequently hereafter.

After having a look at the children in the colony, the Chief Executive Officerdirected the health officials to hold check-ups for the children and ascertain their problems. 

Since alcoholism is a major problem in the Colony among the Koragas, the CEO said that he would hold talks with Link De-addiction Centre in Kankanady to do the needful in this regard. Later, speaking to the reporters, the CEO said that a survey of the conditions of the Koragas is being undertaken in all the 203 GPs in the district. Based on the survey, comprehensive development programmes will be made for the Koragas.

Zilla Panchayat Education and Health Standing Committee President Eshwar Kateel, Zilla Panchayat Engineer Prabhakar, Taluk Panchayat members and others were present.
