Upset with the poor quality of a newly constructed road near here, Rajasthan Public Works Minister Bharat Singh refused to inaugurate it.

Singh, who was scheduled to take part in the function on Friday, suggested that the officers get the road, which connects Bhalni and Lalkhni villages, inaugurated by some local representatives.

"I was hesitant to do it because the quality of the construction seemed poor. My focus is on quality so I did not inaugurate the road," the minister, who is on tour to several districts to check the quality of road construction, told mediapersons on Saturday.

After the minister backed out of the ribbon-cutting ceremony, village headman Ladu Singh inaugurated the road.

“I came to know that another road in the same district which was constructed last year got damaged due to poor quality. I asked a quality control team to collect the samples of the road which will be tested in laboratory,” the minister said.

After the test report is received, further decision will be taken, Singh said.
A team of quality control is accompanying the minister which is collecting samples of roads from various places.

After returning to Jaipur, the samples will be sent to laboratory for testing, he said.
