Model village in Tarikere

The only Gram Panchayat in Tarikere taluk which won Nirmal Gram Puraskar for cleanliness is a clean and model village in the state. Kamanadurga (Santhaveri) Gram Panchayat has more than 800 families residing in it. The Gram Panchayat has over 2,500 population. Majority of the population are earn their livelihood as estate labourers. 

Realising the fact that elected representatives have failed to develop villages, C Devaraj united the village youth and took over the administration of the gram panchayat by contesting the election. The Gram Panchayat won Nirmal Gram Puraskar in 2011. C Devaraj had a rare opportunity to launch ‘Karnataka Vikasa Patrike’ along with Minister for Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Jagadeesh Shettar. 

C Devaraj and his team made use of all the facilities of the government and took the Gram Panchayat on the path of success. The Gram Panchayat has effectively implemented Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS). With the available funds, burial ground for Hindus, Christians and Muslims were constructed in the gram panchayat limits. A garden has been laid in the government land and seating arrangement has been provided in the garden for the villagers to relax and enjoy their evenings. 

Box drains have been constructed on either side of the village roads at the cost of Rs 20 lakh. Toilets have been constructed in all most all the houses in the village. A lake has been constructed using the available natural water and is being developed as a tourist spot. Seating arrangement has been made around the lake. 

To asses the progress of the Gram Panchayat, a central team visited the gram panchayat and have expressed happiness over the development. Elected representatives from Kerala too had visited the Gram Panchayat for a study. 

Along with Kannada medium schools, there is a Tamil medium school in the gram panchayat limits.
