Karkala Congress Unit has said that district administration has unilaterally finalised to shift Bandimath bus stand and also change routes of buses plying in Karkala, due to which the local residents have been facing lot of inconvenience.

Congress Karkala City unit President Subith Kumar addressing a news conference on Monday said that this move of the district administration has posed problem in execution of duties by elected representatives.

He said that so far the district administration has never spoken on the shifting of the bus stand.

Town Municipal Council had decided to complete the present bus stand construction work and take up development of Bandimath bus stand in phases so as to utilise it for future use of the Town Municipal Council. However, the shifting of the bus stand has caused humiliation to the elected representatives.

Initial plan

“The decision of development of bus stand was taken up when I was the Town Municipal Councilpresident. An Action Plan of Rs 70 lakh was chalked out and funds were earmarked. With regard to this plan, the Deputy Commissioner has cut down the project cost from Rs 70 lakh to Rs 60 lakh and had shown interest to shift the bus stand to Bandimath bus stand.

Then, it was decided to provide facilities like drinking water, toilet etc and then use Bandimath bus stand,” he said and added that the move of the district administration without holding discussion with the elected representatives is nothing but an insult to the elected representatives.

“Elected representatives have better information on the needs and problems of the people when compared to district administration. The opinion of the elected representatives should have been taken into consideration,” he said informing that the Congress strongly condemns the move of the district administration.

Town Municipal Council Members Ashfaq Ahmed, Nalini V Acharya among others were present.
