Farmer alleges atrocity, sits on hunger strike

Chowda Reddy, a farmer, along with his family, is on a hunger strike since Monday, on the Taluk Panchayat office premises, alleging foisting of a false case against him and his family members under The Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act 1989.

“Our family has been cultivating the land bearing the Survey No 57/7 at Pasapalodu village in Gudibande taluk. Moreover, the land is our ancestral property. However, for the past six months, a dalit leader, has been demanding that the land be handed over for creation of sites for dalit families. Foisting a false case against our family under The Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act 1989, the leader has been torturing my family,” said Chowda Reddy.

“The State government has already allocated sites for dalit families on land bearing Survey No 14 at Pasapalodu village in the taluk. Despite that the dalit leader is creating controversy in a bid to deprive us of our ancestral land,” he said.

Pushed to the brink, Chowda Reddy and his family are on hunger strike in demand of justice.
