Even as the Gandhinagar BBMP ward is gearing up itself for bypoll, K Shivaramanna of the Kannada Chaluvali Samyukta, a candidate, has pointed to huge discrepancies in the voters’ list.

The bypoll to Gandhinagar ward is scheduled for February 26. Shivaramanna found out that as many as 2,500 names surfaced both in the voters’ list of Gandhinagar and Chickpet wards. To cite an example, the name of Gowramma, w/o Gurumurthy, is listed in the voters’ list of both Chickpet as well as Gandhinagar wards.

“Starting from Gowramma’s name, there is a duplication of 419 names between serial numbers 19 and 1,018, in booth number 168. Similarly, there is a duplication of 514 names between the serial numbers 798 and 1,312 in booth number 169,” he said.

He also found out that the name of K Muniyappa appears at three places in both the wards. He has complained to the Election Commission seeking its intervention and deferring the bypoll, owing to discrepancies in the voters’ list.

“If the voters’ list of the Gandhinagar ward is gleaned closely, it can be seen that nearly 10,000 names are repeated in both the wards,” he claimed.

So far 10 people have filed their nomination papers including Ramachandra from BJP, Gopalakrishna  (Congress), P K Suresh (JD-S), Shivaramanna and AIADMK candidate M P Yuvaraj.

The last date for filing nomination papers is Wednesday, while the papers will be scrutinised on Thursday. The last day for withdrawing candidature is Saturday. The results of the bypoll will be declared on February 29. The bypoll has been necessitated following the murder of Corporator S Nataraj on October 1 last year.
