D Sudhakar given 7 days to decide on quitting

Karnataka Minister for Social Welfare D Sudhakar

"Sudhakar has sought a week's time to decide on his resignation. I have granted it", Yeddyurappa said.

Sudhakar, who declined to comply with Chief Minister's directive yesterday to put in his papers, met Yeddyurappa last night and explained to him the legal aspects involved in his case.

"Sudhakar is ready to submit his resignation. Upon his explanation, I have accepted his request for a week's time", Yeddyurappa, who will be setting out on a week-long foreign tour early tomorrow, told reporters here.

Sudhakar, one of the six independent MLAs supporting the BJP government, is facing charges of cheating a nationalised bank by securing housing loans to the tune of Rs seven crore in the name of existing and non-existent employees of various organisations through two firms with which he has been associated.

V Somanna, who lost the August 18 bypoll from Govindarajanagar assembly seat, yesterday quit the ministry and his resignation was accepted.
