BIA to have over 700 CCTVs soon

Last Updated 15 February 2012, 19:30 IST

Over 700 close circuit televisions (CCTVs) will be installed at the Bengaluru International Airport (BIA), said Deepak Murudeshwar, vice president of the BIAL.

Speaking at the fifth aerodrome committee meeting here on Wednesday, Murudeshwar, who is also the head of security, said the BIAL has earmarked Rs two crore for the purpose and it has already released half of the allocation.

Besides, he said, the BIAL would identify land for construction of a state-of-the-art police station at a cost of Rs 8 crore. Murudeshwar said work on the second terminal at the airport would commence next year and was likely to be completed before 2017.

Principal Secretary to the Home Department Dr S M Jaamdar, who is also the chairman of the aerodrome committee, said the toilets at the airport are not adequate. Flight delays make the situation worse, as the airport would be crowded and passengers make a beeline for the check-in counters during peak hours in the morning and evening.

The BIAL should take care of the basic comforts of the passengers and increase the number of chairs at the waiting lounge, he said.
