Brains n beats

Deccan Herald is hosting ‘Brains n Beats’ — an inter-collegiate quiz and group dance competition. The quiz will take place on February 24 and the group dance competition on February 25.

The venue for both events is St Joseph’s Indian High School Auditorium, Vittal Mallya Road. The competition is open to students of graduate and post-graduate courses (Arts, Science, Commerce, Medicine, Engineering, Management, etc).

For the quiz, a college can send a maximum of three teams (three persons per team). However, if more than one team from the same college clears the preliminaries, then only the top scoring team of the same college will qualify for the finals.

For group dance, the competition will be held in two categories — semi-classical  (theme-based dances from mythology, folk styles, etc) and modern dance. Each college can send only one team per category. The maximum number of members per team is six. The music should be recorded and brought on a CD. The time limit for the dance is four minutes plus one minute grace time.  Exceeding the time limit will lead to disqualification. Participants are advised to dress modestly.

Dance movements and songs which are provocative will invite disqualification. Props can be used as long as they are not dangerous and do not litter the stage. Brand Factory is a co-sponsor for the event while Splash will be sponsoring a part of the prizes. A lot of attractive prizes are up for grabs!  There is no entry fee!  Registration is free! Send in your registrations before February 18 to shanthim@deccanherald.co.in or dhcolleges@deccanherald.co.in.
