Development is just a mirage for this ward

Lambanis live in the area near taluk headquarters, but have no roads, water or power facility

Basic facilities seem to be a mirage for tandas in and around Tempaiah Kuntatanda grama at Mittemari hobli, in the taluk. In spite of the proximity to the taluk, the lambanis in the tandas have no roads, drinking water and needless to say, there is also no power facility.

The Tempaiah Kuntatanda grama has about 25 lambani houses and majority of the residents here belong to Scheduled Community. There is no development absolutely in the village. Roads are dilapidated and many live in huts. The people here have no toilet facility, as well.

“We have no drinking water facility, hence, we are forced to use tank water. Poverty and illiteracy are rampant here. Attendance level at government schools here is very low,” complained the residents here. Further, the village has no power facility.

Leprosy attack

“The village has no health facilities. Many suffer from leprosy here. But the authorities concerned have not bothered to visit us. They have been deprived of treatment,” said Nagenaika, of Tanda.

Dalit Sangharsh Samiti co-ordinator B N Gangadharappa said land grabbing cases are on the rise here. Many lambanis have lost their lands to a few influential persons.

The samiti will hold a protest to draw the attention of the government, he added. The samiti wanted Deputy Commissioner to visit the tanda and initiate action against land grabbing.

Panchayat chiefs promise facilities

Chikkaballapur Zilla Panchayat vice-president B Savithramma, who visited the Tempaiahkunta Tanda on Wednesday, promised to provide basic facilities.

The Tanda is reeling under severe water crisis since the last two months. The residents of the village have not been given old age pension, widow pension or other facilities. But no assistance came their way, complained the residents of the Tanda.

Bagepalli Taluk Panchayat president Shobharani said residents will be provided water facility temporarily. She directed the Panchayat Executive Officer to address grievances.
