Last Updated 18 February 2012, 20:05 IST

A former key pointsman in the AIADMK and one of its power centres until recently, M Natarajan, husband of Sasikala, the estranged friend of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalitha, was arrested on Saturday for his role in an alleged land-grab case.

Natarajan was taken into custody by a team of the Thanjavur Police who came to his Besant Nagar residence. A land-grab complaint has been filed by one Ramalingam of Thanjavur, sources said.

Natarajan, once a powerful and influential PRO in the Tamil Nadu government before he became a behind-the-scenes man in the AIADMK, is the third close relative of Sasikala who has been arrested since  Jayalalitha expelled her and a host of her relatives from the party on Dec ember 19 last to cleanse it of “extra-constitutional authorities”.  Natarajan’s arrest came an hour after Sasikala deposed in the Bangalore Speical Court earlier in the day in the disproportionate assets case.
