Toll in cart accident rises to eight

The death toll in the bullock cart accident at Mugalihal village of Soundatti taluk, Belgaum district, on Monday, rose to eight with the recovery of five more bodies on Tuesday.

All the dead were women and children and belonged to four families in Mugalihal village.

The dead have been identified as Sarojini Shivappa Ganiger (20), Sangeeta Mutyappa Ganiger (14), Bharati Ganiger (12), Gangamma Adiveppa Ganiger (60),Laxmi Fakirappa Ganiger (20), Veena alias Vinoda Mahadev Ganiger (9) and Anasuya Fakirappa Ganiger (60) and Siddavva Basappa Arabhavi (48). 

The bullock cart carrying 12 people, including eight women and three children, plunged into  Ghataprabha Right Bank Canal, after the bullock slipped into the canal maintenance road, late Monday evening.

A compensation from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund will be given to the dead, Deputy Commissioner V Anbukumar said.
