A city-based advocate on Tuesday filed a private complaint against S Y Arunadevi, daughter of former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa, in the Principal District and Sessions Court here, accusing her of illegally registering sites in her name under the working journalists’ quota.

Principal District and Sessions Court Judge Mahalakshmi Nerale has registered the complaint under the Prevention of Corruption Act and the Indian Penal Code.

After hearing the arguments by complainant B Vinod, the judge directed the Shimoga Lokayukta police to probe the case and submit a report by March 14. In the complaint, Yeddyurappa has been named the first accused, Arunadevi the second, and KHB commissioner Dyaberi the third accused. Shivashankar, Krishna, Sandesh Gowda and Manjunath also figure in the list.

Journalists’ quota

Arunadevi has been accused of getting four sites (each measuring 30 X 50) transferred to her name on March 31, 2010, under the working journalists’ quota in violation of norms.

Vinod told Deccan Herald that the four sites at Kallahalli on the outskirts of the city had been allotted to Shivashankar, Krishna, Sandesh Gowda and Manjunath (employed in an institution run by Arunadevi) under the working journalists’ quota on June 27, 2007.

The sanctioned sites later were transferred in the name of Arunadevi.

The then deputy chief minister B S Yeddyurappa had written a letter to the KHB commissioner recommending the allotment of four sites to Shivashankar, Krishna, Sandesh Gowda and Manjunath under the working journalists’ quota, despite being aware of the fact that none of the four beneficiaries was a journalist.

Assistant executive engineer Haleshappa executed the site deed without inspection, he said.
