Airport Metro to begin check-in facility for international flyers

Last Updated 21 February 2012, 19:57 IST

In a measure that will help international flyers from waiting in long queues at the Indira Gandhi International airport, the Airport Metro Express will make check-in facility available at its New Delhi and Shivaji stadium stations from February 23. Till  now, check-in facility was available only for the domestic flyers.

The facility will allow fliers to check-in their baggage before boarding the Airport Metro Express to reach Terminal-3 of the IGI airport. They will be given the boarding pass at the station itself. While national carrier Air India will begin the check-in facility from Thursday, private carriers Jet and Kingfisher will follow suit.

President of Reliance Infrastructure, concessionaire of Delhi Airport Metro Express, Anil P Gupta said the international check-in service at the two stations will help passengers flying abroad to avoid long queues. “International flyers can collect their boarding passes at the Airport Express Metro station itself and go for the security check at the airport, totally hassle free,” he added.

The introduction of the new facility coincides with the first anniversary of the Airport Express.  The 23-km high-speed corridor that allows passengers to reach Airport from Connaught Place in 18 minutes, currently has a ridership of 20,000 commuters per day.

“Passengers have to check-in minimum two and half hours prior to their flight time. Flyers can check-in and collect their boarding passes a maximum eight hours prior to their flight time,” a Reliance Infra spokesman said. The early check-in facility will give commuters enough time to explore the retail outlets.

The metro officials said the early check-in will help passengers coming from UP and other neighbouring states.
