Four of the suspects — S K Parameshagowda alias Girish (28), H M Mahesh alias Toli (23), both from T Dasarahalli, S N Umesh alias Jogi (23) of Andrahalli Main Road, and C Nagesh alias Umesh (23) — were nabbed near Shettihalli Tank in Peenya on February 7, when they were reportedly planning a dacoity.

Police did not know that the suspects were part of a gang that was running a prostitution and robbery racket and had brutally murdered three of their own associates over financial disputes.

However, when police grilled them, they spilled the beans, which led to the arrest of two more suspects, Hanumantharaju alias Kariya (26) of Chikkasandra and Rajesh alias Yogeesh (26) of T Dasarahalli.

The suspects hail from Kunigal and Channarayapatna taluks of Tumkur and Hassan districts, respectively.

According to police, cracks first appeared in the gang’s business when one of its associates, Srinivas, quarreled with another member, Chalapathi alias Reddy, over transporting girls for prostitution.

This infuriated Reddy who hatched a conspiracy to kill Srinivas and roped in Rajesh alias Yogeesh, Madhu alias Dinesh, Hanumantharaju, Raju, Mahesh, Nagesh, and Umesh.

Rajesh called Srinivas to Reddy’s house at Rainbow Layout in Vidyaranyapura in November 2010. The suspects hacked Srinivas with lethal weapons and disposed of his body in the Hemavathi drain near Channarayapatna.

Umesh (24), a resident of Sunkadakatte, became the second victim of the gang’s brutality a year later, on December 5, 2011. He had picked a fight with Umesh alias Jogi, Mahesh, Nagesh, and Thimmegowda, over sharing of cash and gold ornaments.

Umesh’s refusal to part with the booty infuriated the suspects who killed him and dumped his body too in Hemavathi canal.

Madhu alias Dinesh, who was an alleged associate in the murder of Srinivas, became the third victim. Mahesh had refused to give Rs 50,000 he owed to Madhu.

He then called Madhu as well as Parameshagowda, Umesh alias Jogi, and Hanumantharaju to Hombalakoppalu village near Channarayapatna on February 5, 2012, police said.

But the talks turned violent, and as planned, the four killed Madhu. They took his body to a nearby forest and set it ablaze.
