Denied pooja invite, man fires in air

Infuriated over not getting an invitation for the Shivaratri pooja, a 48-year-old man fired five rounds in the air in Amruthalli locality on Sunday night.

According to police, Jayaprakash Singh, an interior designer and a carpenter, Lokanath and hundreds of others joined hands to renovate the Kashi Vishwanatha temple in their area. A few volunteers criticised Singh for his drinking habits. But the latter suspected the role of Lokanath in tarnishing his image, police said.

An inebriated Singh, who was furious over not being invited for the Shivaratri pooja, rammed his SUV into an employee of Lokanath, and later fired in the air with his. 22 revolver. The residents rushed to the spot on hearing the commotion, by which time Singh had fled the spot. Police later found him hiding in a security guard’s room.

Singh was arrested and booked for attempt to murder under IPC as well as under Arms Act.
