Vidyavardhaka College of Engineering (VVCE) suffered a massive 191-run defeat at the hands of  Post Graduate Sports Council (PGSC), Manasagangothri, in the quarterfinal match of the Dell KSCA Inter-collegiate cricket tournament 2012, conducted by the KSCA Mysore Zonal committee, at the Gangothri grounds here on Wednesday.

Winning the toss and electing to bat, PGSC after being reduced to 40 for three at one stage, recovered well to set a huge total of 353 runs in 48.1 overs. Opener N Bharath played a responsible innings by scoring 87 (16x4s) runs. Bharath and K N Yogesh (69, 9x4s) added 126-runs for the fourth wicket. A quick-fire 78 (6x6s, 4x4s) by H N Chandrashekar and 39 runs by T Manjunath helped the team post a massive total.

Medium-pacer Asifulla Khan impressed with his medium-pacers taking four for 59. Ponnappa took two for 72.

In reply, VVCE were bowled out for 162 in 41.2 overs. Asifulla Khan top scored with 30 (4x4s). Ponnappa (28) and opener Sanjay Urs (20) were the other contributors.

Murali, Sinchan, K N Yogesh and Shantaraju took two wickets each for PGSC. With this win, PGSC entered the semi-finals.

In another quarterfinal match, National Institute of Engineering, registered a three-wicket win over SBRR Mahajana FGC in a keenly contested tie at the Maharaja’s College grounds.


Match 1: PGSC: 353 in 48.1 overs ( N Bharath 87, K N Yogesh 69, H N Chandrashekar 78, T Manjunath 39, Asifulla Khan four for 59, Ponnappa two for 72) beat Vidya Vardhaka College of Engineering, Mysore 162 in 41.2 overs ( Asifulla Khan 30, Ponnappa 28, Sanjay Urs 20, Murali two for 15, Sinchan two for 17, Shantaraju two for 35, K N Yogesh two for 42).

Match 2: SBRR Mahajana FGC 233 in 42 overs ( Vijeth 57, R. Gururaj 40, A.H. Ullas 44, Sandeep three for 33, A M Aniruddha three for 24, Kishan two for 42) lost to National Institute of Engineering  234 for seven in 47.2 overs ( Guruprasad Swamy 62, Krithik U 50, Aniruddha 40, H Varun 26, N J Gowtham two for 36, Shashidhara two for 34).
