Sriramulu to fast for 'answers'

Last Updated 22 February 2012, 19:29 IST

Former Minister B Sriramulu has decided to undertake a two-day fast from March 13 at the Vidyadana grounds in Gadag, seeking answers to various issues in North Karnataka.

A number of senior leaders and Mutt heads are expected to participate in the fast.

Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, Sriramulu said for the past 60 years both the Centre and State had meted out stepmotherly treatment to the North Karnataka region.

The fast is being undertaken to draw the attention of the Government and to press for the implementation of the D M Nanjundappa Committee Report on redressal of regional imbalance, he said.

The fasting will be apolitical, Sriramulu said.

First agitation

Besides, this will be the first agitation of the new political party to be formed by him, he added.

The former minister said the fast also hopes to drive home the message regarding the issues relating to the poor, labourers and farmers of North Karnataka and the neglected areas of power, irrigation and education.

Sriramulu said after Gadag, the ‘fasting for an answer’ campaign will be carried out in all the 13 districts of North Karnataka and this exercise will be held later in Mysore, Mangalore and Kolar.

Answers will be sought for the burning issues in each of these places, he added.
