Youth killed in graveyard

A ritual at the Harishchandra Ghat graveyard in Srirampur ended in murder of a youth here on Tuesday.

During Smashana Soore – a ritual performed usually on Amavsya day – at the Ghat, delicious dishes, cigarettes, liquor and perfumes are dedicated to the dead. Some people throng the graveyard to take away the liquor bottles and other food items.

According to the police, the youth might have been stabbed to death during a fight to collect the food and liquor.

Sharath, 22, a resident of Srirampuram, is the dead. Sharath’s friend Vishwa has been detained in connection with the murder.

The police said, though they were good friends, Vishwa might have stabbed Sharath in a fit of anger.

A profusely bleeding Sharath was shifted to KC General Hospital. The doctors, who attended on Sharath, referred him to Jayadeva Hospital and he succumbed to injuries on the way to the hospital.

Man held for killing wife

A cab driver has been arrested for killing his wife.

Mohan Raju, a  resident of 16 ‘C’ Cross, Malleswaram, is the arrested. On Tuesday night, he came home drunk and had a fight with his wife Roopa over purchasing jewellry.

Later, he walked out and slept in the car. In the morning, the couple continued thier quarrel and in a fit of rage, Mohan slapped Roopa. She was shifted to KC General Hospital. But the doctors declared Roopa dead.

Alcoholic ends life

A 36-year-old man committed suicide by hanging at his home in Gokul extension, Mattikere in Yeshwanthpur on Tuesday.

The deceased Padmanabha, came home drunk and locked the bedroom door. The family members didn’t disturb him but found him hanging in the morning. The police said,Padmanabha was married with two kids.

In another incident, a youth was found hanging from the ceiling fan hook at his accommodation in Doddanakundi at HAL on Tuesday.

Suresh, 26, the deceased, was working in a hotel. The police are yet to get the details as to what forced him to take the extreme step.

Aged man dies in accident

In a freak road accident, an octogenarian riding pillion on a motorcycle, died after a SUV driver suddenly opened the vehicle’s door.

Nakumal Jain (82) was riding pillion with his grandson Chethan Kumar’s bike. When they were moving on Kanakapura Road, a Tata Sumo driver suddenly stopped and opened the door of his vehicle.

The door hit the two-wheeler throwing the senior citizen down. With severe head injuries, Jain was taken to a private nursing home.

Later, he succumbed to injuries. Chethan escaped with minor injuries.

Woman kills self

A woman committed suicide by hanging at her house over her son’s refusal to marry the girl of her choice, on Wednesday.

The victim, identified as Sharada, 48, wanted her son to marry her brother’s daughter.

However, her son refused to marry within the family.Efforts by the family members to convince Sharada failed.

On Wednesday morning she was found hanging from the ceiling fan in her house.
