Haryana declares 2012 as Year of Youth'

Haryana government has decided to observe 2012 as ''Year of Youth'' in order to properly harness young talent.

“Keeping this in view and with a view to celebrating youth, my government has declared the year 2012 as the Year of Youth,” Governor Jagan Nath Pahadia said delivering his address on the opening day of the Budget session of the state Assembly here on Thursday afternoon.

Pahadia said the government will pay a focused attention to all such activities as benefit young girls and boys so that they are able to realise their true potential. “All necessary steps will be taken to expand health facilities, quality education, skills development, employment and livelihood oppurtunities to cater to the needs and aspirations of the youth,” the Governor said.

He said the government considers promotion of sports as an important strategy for the holistic development of youth and as the key to the inclusive and affirmative governance.

The Governor in his 28-page address detailed developmental activities in various spheres, including agriculture, irrigation, power, rural development and education and said the government “rededicates itself to the goal of achieving a faste and more inclusive growth and equitable development”.

He also reiterated the stand on river waters by saying, p“My government is resolute in its commitment to secure Haryana’s legitimate share of water and will continue to pursue the matter at all levels”. No details were given. Pahadia said according to the Advance Estimates for 2011-12, the per capita income of Haryana is expected to be Rs 1,09,227 at current prices and the state ranks second after Goa.

The House on the opening day also paid tributes to those who died since the last session in August last year. The leaders included former Union Minister Ram Singh, former state minister Chiranji Lal Sharma and 13 students who died in a school-van accident with a truck near Ambala on January 2 this year.
