Cops injured in a clash with lawyers

In a clash between police personnel and lawyers in the premises of Karkardooma court on Thursday afternoon, eight police personnel, including two station house officers (SHOs) and 18 lawyers were injured, police said.

Nishant Singh, a junior engineer of Shahdra south zone, along with his labourers and police personnel had gone to demolish some portion of a building at Inderpuri area in Anand Vihar, owned by an advocate Sujeet Kurmar.

The advocate and a few other lawyers manhandled them at the house and beat up six labourers, following which the engineer along with the staff lodged a formal complainant at the Anand Vihar police station.

“Sujeet’s supporters, including 10-12 lawyers arrived at the police station and tried to manhandle me. They tore some official documents and also bashed police personnel when they tried to stop them,” said the engineer.

According to a senior police officer, to control the mob a constable, Manoj beat up two lawyers—Vindo Bhardwaj and Vikas with his lathi.

This incident added fuel to the fire as around five hundred lawyers assembled in the Karkardooma court and clashed with the police personnel at the police post in the premises.

A mob of lawyers damaged four police vehicles, including two four-wheelers and two motorcycles, at around 3.30 pm and continued to create ruckus till 6 pm, police said.
“They pelted stones on police personnel present there. Two SHOs, a sub-inspector, and their five lower subordinates were injured in the clash,” said an officer adding a constable, identified as Sanjay suffered serious injuries.
