Udupi-C'magalur poll will not be symbolic show: HDK

Candidate will be finalised on February 27

Udupi-Chikmagalur Lok Sabha polls will not be taken as a symbolic show but instead JD(S) will seriously fight for victory, said JD(S) Leader and former chief minister H D Kumaraswamy.

Speaking to reporters in Mangalore after meeting the Bishop Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza, HDK said that they will face and win the election through ‘Social leadership’.

“After BJP came to power, 20 bypolls were held out of which JD(S) has won over eight seats. Now, we will focus at building confidence of people over the party by taking the party to the people,” he said.

Rejecting rumours that JD(S) will withdraw its candidate at the last minute, HDK said that these are the rumours spread by opponents for which they will not pay any heed.

He said that while BJP has failed as a ruling party, Congress has failed as an opposition. “Only JD(S) is doing the duty of an opposition party,” he said.

Talking about the internal drifts within BJP, he said that he would not want to comment about the differences within BJP but yet he would say that BJP is busy solving their internal problems rather than solving problems of the people.

“The CM has agreed that 123 taluks have been hit by drought. Instead of providing solace to these drought-hit regions, BJP is wasting time settling individual problems. Apart from this, the CM has retained about 20 departments in his hands. I wonder how the CM can give efficient administration in this situation,” he said adding that the CM also takes out quality time to spend in temples.

With regard to former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa’s statement that D V Sadananda Gowda is being unreasonable due to instigation by H D Deve Gowda, HDK said that BSY had made similar statement in 2008 too. He is using the same strategy again. “BSY should prove this allegation,” he demanded.

Bishop’s demand

HDK had come to Mangalore to seek blessings of the Bishop. However, during the meeting, the Bishop had demanded HDK to pressurise the Government to withdraw several cases filed against innocent minority community members during church attack and several other incidents.

Fresh polls

Earlier, speaking to media persons in Udupi on his way back from Kollur after offering prayers to Goddess Mookambika, Kumaraswamy said that the BJP leaders in State should immediately meet Governor and call-off the power to seek fresh public mandate.

The State government is not in a position to deliver good performance owing to increasing internal turbulence within the party.

The party itself is scattered into many fractions and the impact of the differences is highly observed on the governance. BJP led state government has drastically failed to deliver development oriented effective administration. “Sadananda Gowda seems to be insecure of his position as he always issues the statement asserting his position besides repeatedly telling that he will be in power and complete the term. How can an insecure chief minister deliver stable administration to as many as 6 crore public in the state?”

Candidate on Feb 27

Stating that the Udupi-Chikmagalur Lok Sabha by poll will usher in a new development in the political scenario of the state, former CM said the party will decide over the candidate on February 27. A meeting of the state leaders will be held and nomination will be filed on February 28. There are four contenders namely Madhu Bangarappa, Boje Gowda, Mahendra Kumar and Dharme Gowda.

“I am confident that the recent results of Gulburga bypoll will be repeated and JD(S) will emerge as the winner. The party will work diligently to confirm the victory,” he said.

‘No alliance with Congress’

Meanwhile, HDK, while speaking to reporters, after seeking blessings from goddess Mookambika at Kolluru, ruled out all possibilities of JD(S) joining hands with Congress.

Calling Congress, a party without any belief on secular principles, HDK said that JD(S) will field a strong candidate and focus on victory rather than going for alliance.

With regard to the appointment of the Deputy Lokayukta, he said that JD(S) Supremo had no role to play in it. “The Home Minister who knows the background of the appointment should speak out now,” he said.
