Woman kills kid, attempts suicide

A woman allegedly strangled her 8-year-old daughter, and attempted suicide by hanging herself at her residence in Balajinagar on Friday.

Police said the victim, Rameeza, 25, was married to Mustanaiah from Kadapa in Andhra Pradesh. He had died two years ago and Rameeza was working at a cloth store owned by Dhananjay Reddy. Financial problems could be the reason for her act, police said.

Rameeza strangled her daughter, Saheena, studying in class 2 at Shubhamangala school.

Later, when she tried to hang herself from a ceiling fan, using her veil, her neighbours noticed her and rescued her, said the police. Police have registered a case of murder against her.

Ivory plates seized

CID Forest cell sleuths arrested three persons and seized 15 pieces of ivory plates and three cellphones on Friday. The suspects are Faziulla Khan and Praveen, both from Andhra Pradesh, and Manoj from Delhi.

Tipped off, the police arrested them near Nalanda Theatre on Mysore Road when they were allegedly selling the ivory plates. The suspects were handed over to the Chamarajpet police.

Valuables recovered

The City Police Commissioner’s office on Friday said the East division police have recovered valuables worth Rs 6.47 crore, including 8.542 gram of gold and diamond articles. They claim to have solved 200 cases and arrested 156 persons in this connection.
