With baby in arms, girl writes board examination

It was literally a testing time for a Nadia school student who sat for her Class X board English exam accompanied by her three-day-old baby.

Saraswati Halder had given birth to the baby after appearing for her Bengali exam on Friday last.

Halder, a student of Bhajanghat High School in Nadia district sat for the English paper at Majdia Shib Mohini Kanya Vidyapith, the centre of her Madhyamik examination with her daughter on Monday, Headmaster of the school Krishnapada Dutta said.

“I told the authorities that Saraswati would go for exams on Tuesday with her baby. I requested the authorities to help her,” Dutta said.

The examination centre authorities provided her a separate room and her mother-in-law Anima Halder was allowed to sit beside her with the baby on lap.

Anju Chatterjee, the centre in-charge said, “We were ready to provide her 15 minutes extra time but she finished on time.”
