When hour after hour passed without any headway being made in finding the missing copter, anxious supporters and admirers turned to god for help.

When Finance Minister K Rosaiah confirmed that day’s rumours that the CM was safe were not true, fears turned into tears and people began to converge to the CM’s residence in Begumpet and to the Congress party office in Nampally.

Wailing women supporters clung to pictures of various gods hoping that the CM was safe while men broke down and wept.

“He’s our God,” said Venkatesh a party worker in Gandhi Bhavan, the party headquarters. Jaffar was more hopeful. “God is with him... He is God’s divine instrument... He will come back safely,” he said.

Hopeful admirers congregated to temples, mosques and churches and held special prayers for the safety of YSR. A group of Muslim employees offered prayers in front of his office in the Secretariat.

Men in a local temple in Uppal locality in Hyderabad kept breaking coconuts and said they would continue to do so through the night, till YSR returned safely. In Kandukur town in Nellore district, admirers of YSR said they had taken a vow to walk to Tirumala’s Venkateswara temple if YSR returned safely, like they had done when he was re-elected for the second time last May.

In YSR’s home district of Cuddapah, Muslims held special prayers. Prayers were also held in different churches. Criticising the government’s inability to trace the CM’s helicopter even after seven hours, they offered to go to the Nallamalla forest to look for him.
Meanwhile, a Telugu film producer Dilraj postponed the release of his film “Josh” which was slated for world wide release on Friday in deference to the ‘sensitive’ situation prevailing in the state. The film was to launch Akkineni Naga Chaitanya, son of Nagarjuna and grandson of thespian Akkineni Nageswara Rao.
