The Department of Post has been asked by a Delhi district consumer forum to pay Rs 1.5 lakh as damages to a girl student for its failure to deliver her admit card for a crucial examination in time, causing “loss of her future prospects.”

Holding the postal authorities guilty of being “deficient in providing service” and “wilfully negligent”, the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum said they deprived the student of an opportunity to appear for a test for which she had been preparing for nearly a year.

“We are of the view that Postal Department has been deficient in discharge of their duties and thereby depriving the complainant (Sayyeda Madiha) from taking the admission test at the Aligarh University.

“She may have been selected in the exam of which she has been deprived by the willful negligence of the postal authorities,” the forum presided by N A Zaidi said. It also directed the postal department to pay a compensation of Rs 1.5 lakh to the complainant.
