A Delhi Police head constable's son was shot dead by four men after a car chase in Karawal Nagar area of north east Delhi, police said on Sunday. The police have arrested a neighbour.

Rohit, 25, a small-time contractor and a resident of Indrapuri, was shot at around 10 pm on Saturday when he was returning home with his father Bijender and three friends – Amit, Praveen and Deepak.

“The four men tried to stop Rohit's car, but when he did not stop they chased him. At Karawal Nagar, the miscreants waylaid and shot at him, and then fled from the spot,” a senior police official said.

His father and his friends immediately rushed Rohit to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital in Dilshad Garden, where he was declared brought dead. The doctors said a bullet had entered his head.

According to Rohit's father, Bijender, a woman named Phullo, who is their neighbour, had threatened to kill him on Saturday morning.

He also alleged that Phullo’s sons Lala, Pinku and Bhawan, and their friend Sonu are behind the murder.

The police arrested Phullo on the basis of Bijender’s statement. A case of murder has been registered at Karawal Nagar police station.

“The reason behind the incident is yet to be ascertained. We are investigating the matter and trying to nab the miscreants involved,” the official said. Rohit's body has been handed over to the family after a post-mortem.
