A 32-year-old woman was allegedly raped by a relative at her house in Uttam Nagar in West Delhi, police said on Sunday.
The victim, a married woman, told police she was raped by 35-year-old Ramjilal after her husband left for work around 9.30 am on Saturday.
“The woman has alleged that the accused undressed her by force when he found her alone at home. He later sexually assaulted her,” a senior police official said.
He added that Ramjilal had threatened her to keep quiet. “He warned her of dire consequences if she reported the incident to anyone, including her husband,” the official added.
However, she mustered courage to report the matter to her husband when he returned home in the evening.
Her husband immediately approached police and a case was registered at Uttam Nagar station on the basis of the victim's statement.
“Ramjilal was arrested from his residence after confirming the medical reports,” the official said. He faces charges under section 176 of the Indian Penal Code.
The accused hails from Kushinagar district in Uttar Pradesh and works as a labourer in Delhi.
