One of the biggest department fests in Delhi University, ‘Perspica 2012’, organised by Department of Business Economics of Sri Guru Teg Bahadur Khalsa College witnessed an overwhelming response of around 30 teams from colleges across Delhi in different competitions.

Spanning over three days, from March 1-3, the fest comprised cultural events and a National Seminar over three days. An interesting array of events such as ‘Tame the Bull - Mock Stock’, ‘Gully Cricket’, ‘Case Study Competition’, ‘Creativity Junktion - Best out of waste’ and ‘Encore Part I - Solo Dance Competition’ marked the first day, while The Mock Stock was a huge success with 25 teams participating in the mock-stock exchange market.

Waste not, want not seemed to be the mantra at ‘Creativity Junktion’ competition which required participants to make the best use of the available waste. Students used their creativity to make items from waste material like shoe boxes, straws and discarded CDs. The result was a refrigerator; a vegetable platter and a frog! Talk about creativity.

The following day was soaring high with expectations from day one’s success. The competition list included ‘Treasure Hunt’, ‘Mega Business Quiz’, ‘Kolam-Rangoli Making Competition’, ‘Aesthetica - Movie Making Competition’ and ‘Encore Part II- Group Dance Competition’. While the Treasure Hunt was spread over North Campus and Kamla Nagar Market where participants ran to collect their clues, the rangoli-making competition saw interesting outcomes on the burning topic of ‘Save Girl Child’.

The Solo and Group dance competitions Encore I and II alone witnessed a footfall of around 700 students. Talking about the successful event, Astha Anand, a student co-ordinator from Khalsa College says, “The dance competitions were a huge hit. There is no other college which includes dance competition in their department fest at such a large scale as this.”

The final day saw a National Conference on ‘Financial Conference and Indian Economy’ with the objective to provide a common platform to academia, corporate honchos, management experts and students. Bibhu Prasad Sahu, Head of Business Economics Department of Khalsa College says, “This National Seminar has been organised for  last five years and every year we are inching a step ahead to cater to the rising expectations from the attendees. While selecting the topic, we keep in mind the current scenario so as to provide a contemporary exposure to the students.”

Talking about this mega-scale department fest, principal Jaswinder Singh says, “Through, Perspica, we intend to develop the subject specific skills of students, whose experience is also unique for they get to learn about the expectations of both the government as well as policy makers.”
