A decision has been taken at the general body meeting of the Bar Association here on Monday to dismiss Congress city unit president C Dasegowda and general secretary H A Venkatesh from primary membership of the association.

The members also decried the statement of MP A H Vishwanath relating the term ‘Taliban’ with lawyers and decided to file a defamatory case against him.

They also decided to write a letter to the Bar Council of Karnataka, urging cancelation of his registration.

Against media

A decision was taken at the meeting to file a private complaint against three satellite news channels and a newspaper for showing lawyers in poor light and using derogatory language in news reports.

President sent out

A mention was made that the Bar Association president C Basavaraju attended a felicitation function on Sunday, where lawyers were condemned.

The members alleged that Basavaraju neither objected the remarks nor did he comment on it.

The members took exception to his behaviour and demanded an apology. He was asked to leave the meeting. The meeting was later held under the presidentship of vice-president R Vishwanath.

Boycott

Responding to the call given by Karnataka State Bar Council, lawyers in the city abstained from attending the court proceedings — leaving their clients roaming around on the court complex premises.

Judges were seen calling affected petitioners, adjourning proceedings and giving alternative dates for hearings.

The lawyers rejoiced and celebrated the release of the advocates on bail, who had been arrested on charges of assaulting journalists in Bangalore recently.

They shouted slogans in favour of their association and expressed their solidairty with their counterparts in Bangalore.
