'Need to set up more hostels in Kodagu district'

Addressing presspersons after visiting post metric girls hostel in Madikeri, he said there is a need to set up more hostels in Kodagu district for the benefit of backward and poor students. The district needs five Morarji Desai Residential Schools. A proposal will be sent to the government in this regard, he added. “If more number of Morarji Desai Residential Schools are set up, then it will benefit students from backward community. PU colleges will be started in Morarji Desai Residential Schools from next year,” he added.

“Backward community hostels are in good condition in Kodagu district. Caste-wise survey is being undertaken in the State. The survey will help in bringing backward community to the mainstreams of the society by providing government facilities,” he opined.

He said the Commission will conduct a study on the lifestyle of ‘Havu golla’ community residing in Shanivarasanthe and will help in providing basic facilities. He also listened to the grievances of the students at the hostel. Backward community and minority department officer H G Prabhakat and others were present.
