BBMP awareness drive about poll portal

Details akin to information provided on ECI voters list
Last Updated 03 September 2009, 19:35 IST

The website that provides detailed information features even the voter’s house number.
While this may raise eyebrows of a common man on the issues of security and privacy, the SEC says that the details on the list online is similar to the details of the Election Commission of India (ECI) voters’ list.

The SEC has updated the website with the names of the voters who had recently exercised their franchise in the recent Lok Sabha elections. But the list still carries the same mistakes recorded before the parliamentary elections, and which were corrected by the citizens before voting. “While my name was corrected prior to acquiring my EPIC card, the current list on the Palike website has the same mistakes as before,” said a citizen belonging to Malleswaram constituency.

This voter had the right name incorporated on the EPIC card, only to find a different name on the “bbmpelections.info” portal. Incidentally, the web portal has only 18 constituencies updated, while the rest of the 10 Assembly constituencies are yet to be added.

“The Govindrajnagar and Vijaynagar constituencies have been partially mapped and updated. However, the rest of the information will be updated in a few days,” informed a SEC official.

The SEC and the Palike have joined hands and are discussing about how the citizens can make maximum use of the portal by holding meetings with the residents, Palike officials and residents welfare associations in each Assembly constituency.
