Afghan forces backed by NATO troops have evicted Taliban militants from a district in southern Kandahar province and established government control there, Xinhua reported Saturday.

After days of operations, the Taliban were evicted Friday night from Ghorak district, 450 km south of capital city Kabul, provincial police chief Abdul Raziq said.

"At last our police with the support of national army and the NATO-led forces recaptured Ghorak district after four years," he said.

All Taliban insurgents had fled and a search operation has been launched to capture them, he said. The Taliban did not make any comment.
