Water scarcity plagues Udayagiri, NGO Layouts

Two cisterns unable to meet demands of the areas

The residents of Udayagiri Layout and NGO Layout are facing acute water scarcity despite two borewells with good water yield in the area.

The ‘lucky’ residents who have installed motors to the rising mains of the water supply network get water copiously while the rest continue to suffer with meagre or no supply at all. Some houses get water once a fortnight. The residence of K H Muniyappa, the Union Minister of State for Railways, is also located in the area.

No roads

The layouts are also bereft of proper roads. It had been over a decade since the roads were asphalted in the locality.

The work on developing National Highway-4 and Tekal Road, the two major connecting roads to the localities, is in progress.

However, there has been no whisper on improving the roads in the two layouts. Residents felt that construction of drains for the residential locality appears to be a distant dream.

The roads in Ramanjaneya Nagar are in pathetic. They are too narrow that even water tankers find it difficult to traverse them.

Waste strewn

A majority of the vacant sites in the layouts have been converted into garbage dump yards. The City Municipality has failed to take concrete steps to collect garbage.

The municipality planted thousands of saplings in the area four months ago.

But the initial enthusiasm died down there itself and there were no efforts to water the saplings. Consequently, hundreds of saplings have withered away.

A few residents, who get water on a regular basis have been watering the saplings, said Raghavendra, a resident.
