Inter-state drug trafficking syndicate busted, three held

With the arrest of three men, Delhi Police on Saturday claimed to have busted a syndicate of inter-state drug traffickers operating in the national capital and Punjab.

They also recovered drugs worth Rs 4 crore in the international market from the possession of Rafique, 30, of Gaziabad, Raheesh, 24, of Bholswa Dairy and Amit, 22, of Nangloi.

“The trio was held over a tip-off that they would come to supply heroin at a house near Nangloi Metro station on Wednesday,” said L N Rao, additional deputy commissioner of police (special cell).

A trap was laid and Amit was held with 500 grams of heroin at around 10:30 am. During a search of the house, Raheesh was apprehended and 750 grams of heroin, a kilogram of phenobarbital and packing material was recovered.

The duo was subjected to sustained interrogation upon which they disclosed that Rafique was the leader of the gang.

“They used to get the drugs from Rafique and supply them to parties in Punjab and drug paddlers in Sadar Bazar. They have been in the business for the past three years,” Rao added.

Rafique was held at their instance from Nangloi Metro station with a kilogram of heroin.
During raids at his house, 525 grams of heroin and a kilogram of phenobarbital was recovered.

Rafique told police that he has been supplying drugs for the past 10 years and used to get them from his contacts in Bihar and Jharkhand.

A case under appropriate sections of law has been registered. “Investigation is in progress and efforts are on to apprehend other members of the syndicate,” Rao said.
