‘The only way from here is up’

Second innings : Amisha Patel

Amisha Patel has been missing from the big screen for a while now with her career hitting rock bottom but the actress, who recently launched her own production house, says she is all set to begin a new phase in life.

The 36-year-old actress is producing two films this year and has signed on to star in three — Bhaiyyaji Superhit, ‘Race 2’ and ‘Shortcut Romeo’. “The only way from here would be up, up and up. I have got a new lease of life and I am going to make the most of it. I am a fighter and am here to stay,” said Amisha.

The actress has signed on big names like David Dhawan and Priyadarshan to direct films for her banner and says she is also going to star in her own productions. “I am going to be busy since I would be acting in both my productions. There has been so much goodwill that I have earned in the industry during the last ten years. I am making films now and I couldn’t have settled for anything but the best.

Also in our production house we have a clear vision that we would give directors whatever they need. There won’t be any compromise. We won’t be following trends, we would be creating them,” she added. While David Dhawan’s film would be an out-and-out masala comedy, Priyadarshan’s film would be a comedy with elements of drama in it as well.

Buzz is that in the David Dhawan film, Amisha would be enacting the role of a prostitute. For someone who is aiming at making a comeback, isn’t that a risk to be seen in an unconventional role for a leading lady? “But then I have not quite followed the rule book right through my career.

In my early years as well, I had no qualms playing a mother in Ankahee. Then I also went grey in Humraaz. Also, how many actresses would have willingly got into the kind of mode as I did in Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic or ‘Honeymoon Travels Pvt Ltd’? I believe in being an actor and really get bored if someone asks me to step into a film for just three songs and two scenes,” said Amisha.

The actress isn’t too pleased with the way many of her contemporaries have gone ahead and tried building a career. “I don’t see any reason why one should go ahead and wear a bikini just for the sake of it. I didn’t want to do that but I see that today it has become a trend. It seems that many out there are just going to gym and then coming in front of the camera. But my question is where is acting here? You know, these are the kind of things that make you feel dejected.”

Meanwhile, Amisha has pretty much managed to strike a balance in life. While she is happy to forge a business partnership with her friend Kunal Goomer, she has also left behind her break-up with Kanav Puri.

“It has been a couple of years since we moved on. I guess some things work out and some don’t. Most of the time, we were not together since he was overseas. I have realised that long distance relationships aren’t easy to maintain,” she said.

A dangerous jump

Daredevil stunts are something that most B-Town dwellers shy away from. But not the cast of Jeena Hai Toh Thok Daal! The lead actors Ravi Kissen, Manish Vatsalya (who is also the director) and Rahul Kumar performed a spectacular act for the movie.

The trio jumped from an eighty feet high railway track in Purnia, Bihar without any safety belts or harnesses, with only mattresses on the ground for safety.
As if that was not enough, the awesome threesome went ahead and jumped
the second time as well in order to give the perfect shot.

Initially, Ravi Kissen was quite apprehensive whether he would be able to pull off a stunt of this level but director Manish persuaded him and told him that proper arrangements had been made for them to land safely.

Interestingly, this one is an action scene which has to be performed before the train arrives on the track. Let’s wait and see how this one turns out to be.

‘Jimmy is super fun’

Actress Divya Dutta seems to be enjoying every bit of shooting of her new film Special Chabbis in the capital specially with co-stars Jimmy Sheirgill and Anupam Kher. “Dilli ki sardi and shooting with same very talented actors! Jimmy Sheirgill! My second wth him in a row after Dangerous Ishq! Quiet, restrained, unlike me but super fun like me! (sic)” Divya tweeted.

“And Anupam Kher! one of my very favourites! My second with him after 'Morning Walk'! Someone who’s super talented n a super sense of humour! He is someone who has seen life right from the grassroot level, and come up on his own, and yet laughed about struggles. N failures! I met him on the set after real long, and there’s something so positive about him!” The film stars Akshay Kumar in the lead.

‘I want to do solo roles’

Bollywood actor Tusshar Kapoor, who has been part of hits like Golmaal and ‘The Dirty Picture’, says multistarrers have helped him more than solo films. The 35-year-old actor’s multistarring ventures like the critically acclaimed Shor In The City, comic caper Kyaa Kool Hai Hum and gangster film ‘Shootout At Lokhandwala’, have earned accolades for him.

“For me as an actor, it is my work, be it in solo films or films with an ensemble cast. I need to get into the skin of the character. But somehow multistarrers have helped me a lot more than solo films. Be it the Golmaal series or ‘The Dirty Picture’. Working on such films has been a very rewarding experience for me,” said Tusshar.

When asked if he wants to stick to multistarrers or do more solo films, he said, “I definitely want to do solo films. I enjoy doing solo roles because they give me ample scope, where as in a multistarrer the credit is shared.” The actor’s latest release is Samir Karnik’s Char Din Ki Chandni, a solo film opposite Kulraj Randhawa of Yamla Pagla Deewana fame.

“It is an out-and-out comedy. I am positive about the film. The script is entertaining and is backed by good production house. It is full of fun, colour, romance and music and is apt for Holi,” Tusshar said. The film released on March 9.

A celebration of dance

Remo D’Souza’s ambitious project, ‘AnyBody Can Dance’ (‘ABCD’), India’s first dance film in 3D, has gone on the floor and the choreographer-turned-director says it is like fulfilling a long-cherished dream.

“It is like a dream come true for me. I had always nurtured the thought of making a film on my passion — dancing. ‘ABCD’ is the culmination of multiple dreams actually for me — I get to make a dance film and get the one and only Prabhu Deva to dance and act in it,” Remo said in a statement.

‘ABCD’, being produced by UTV Motion Pictures, will have known choreographers like Prabhu Deva and Ganesh Acharya as part of its cast. While Lauren Gottlieb, the global winner of the popular television talent show ‘So You Think You Can Dance’, has been roped in as the female lead. “We are thrilled to kick off one of our most exciting projects till date, ‘AnyBody Can Dance’, India’s first ever 3D dance musical. It has always been our endeavour to bring audiences movies that are different from the tried and tested and with ‘ABCD’, we believe we are pushing the boundaries of innovative content,” said Siddharth Roy Kapur, CEO of UTV Motion Pictures who is producing the movie.

The film also has the winners of dancing reality show ‘Dance India Dance’ – Salman Khan, Dharmesh, Prince, Mayuresh and Vrushali essaying central characters. Sachin-Jigar have been roped in as the music composers and the film is set to release by the end of 2012.

Enjoying marital bliss

Actor Kinshuk Mahajan, who married his childhood sweetheart Divya three months ago, says life hasn’t changed much since his wedding. His work and home life are well sorted out, with no complaints from his producer, cast or wife. “Firstly, my habits and lifestyle haven’t changed a bit since marriage. Yes, I do rush home immediately after the shoot but that’s because I rush out to hang out or party with my wife and my close bunch of friends,” said Kinshuk.

The actor is currently seen in Zee TV’s Afsar Bitiya. “Both of us are young and enjoy our lives just as other youngsters our age would! And I also ensure that at no point is my work compromised. In fact, I did not even go on my honeymoon as we were just about to launch Afsar Bitiya immediately after my marriage,” he said. If a source from the sets of the show is to be believed, his wife is non-interfering in his work, and takes good care of him. “Kinshuk and Divya make a wonderful couple together.

She visits the sets often whenever Kinshuk is working for longer hours at a stretch and gets along really well with all the other cast members, especially Shahbaaz Khan, Indira Krishnan and Yash Sinha. Their non-stop banter livens the atmosphere,” said the source.
