The Congress on Monday ended all speculations over the identity of the new Uttarakhand chief minister by announcing the name of its MP Vijay Bahuguna for the top job.
"It was decided by party MLAs and all leaders that Vijay Bahuguna will be the chief minister," Union Minister and Congress leader Gulam Nabi Azad announced in the national capital after his meeting with Congress President Sonia Gandhi, who the MLAs had authorised to take the final call.
Azad announced the name of Vijay Bahuguna as Congress Legislature Party leader in Uttarakhand outside the 10 Janpath residence of Sonia Gandhi in the presence of party in charge of the state Birender Singh.
Vijay Bahuguna’s nomination for the job became final with Sonia Gandhi giving the stamp of approval to the son of former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna, after party high command considered several claimants to the post for days.
