Gujarat IPS officer approaches minorities' panel, seeks records

Suspended IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt, who appeared before the National Minorities Commission on Monday following the summons issued to him last week, has requested access to records from the State Control Room.

In his submission, Bhatt has said that the commission should “direct” DG & IGP of Gujarat to provide him access to relevant information, records and documents of the State Control Room between February 27 and September 9 2002.

Bhatt said that the commission should also direct the state government to look into the Control Room Dispatch Registers, special reports sent by the State Information Bureau.

He said that the reports received by the SIB from various agencies should also be provided along with the pink envelope reports sent to the CM by SIB.

He has also submitted before the Commission that the internal document of SIB, authored by him and titled "Godhra Incident of 27/02/2002-An Intelligence Analysis,’’ should also be made available.

Certified copies

He urged the commission to direct the Chairman, Special Investigation Team probing Godhra Riot Cases, to provide him with certified copies of all statements which he had made before the SIT, as well as authenticated copies of all the documents and records tendered by him to the SIT during the course of the investigations carried out by them.

The commission has also summoned former DGP R B Sreekumar and senior police officer Rahul Sharma.
