Tenvic to support table tennis talent

The Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI) is all set to sign an MoU with former India cricket captain, Anil Kumble’s Tenvic for the coaching of its wards.

“We will be signing an MoU with Anil Kumble’s Tenvic for providing foreign coaching to our wards,” said the secretary general of the TTFI, Dhanraj Choudhary.

The AGM, to be held here on March 18, is also expected to discuss inviting the foreign coaches to India for providing their expertise on various aspects of the game besides finalising the schedule for this year’s events.

The meeting will also discuss the venue for the World Junior table tennis Championship, to be held in the country in 2013.

Apart from the above points, the federation is also mulling to ask the sports ministry to allow them to conduct a workshop for the coaches around the country.

“More than infrastructure, it is the lack of proper coaches which is hampering our growth as a table tennis nation.

“Apart from Kamlesh Mehta and Bhawani Mukherjee, we don’t have many other qualified coaches. So we are going to ask the sports ministry to allow us to conduct a workshop for the coaches. Besides we are also going to invite the foreign coaches to provide their expertise and help our coaches,” Choudhary said.

He said Achanta Sharath Kamal, A Amalraj and Soumyajit Ghosh apart from Poulomi Ghatak, K Shamini and Ankita Das were currently undergoing training in Vienna for the  London Olympics.

The team is scheduled to fly to Dortmund from Vienna for the World Team championships starting on March 25.
