So were the ‘bride’ and the ‘bridegroom’. Banking on a popular belief a few members of the City Municipal Council and their supporters conducted “wedding of donkeys” praying for rains.

Nallagangamma temple in Ammawaripet circle of the City was the venue for the unusual event. Even as the ‘bride’ and ‘bridegroom’ attempted to flee obviously feeling “out of place,” public dolled up them with garlands and garments. Amidst chanting of hymns, a person tied the ‘taali’ to the ‘bride’ on behalf of the ‘bridegroom.’

Later, a clay idol of Varuna, the God of Rains was taken in procession and water was poured over him. High decibel prayer for rains all along marked the event. City Municipal Council  member Sriramappa, Somashekar, Prakash, leader Govindaraju, Rajanna, Ranganna, Sundar, Muniyappa, Ganesh, Journalist C G Murali and others were present.
