CID arrests four in Rs 3.39-cr CM relief fund scam

CID sleuths have arrested four persons in the Rs 3.39-crore chief minister’s relief fund scam. 

The suspects are Amoghappa, a resident of Moratgi village in Kalaburagi district, M K Kiran from Chikkanayakanahalli in Tumakuru district, C M Nagaraj Shetty and Shankar, both from Mandya. They obtained letters from MLAs and ministers in the names of beneficiaries, recommending financial assistance under the fund.

The suspects collected ration cards, Aadhaar cards and voters’ identity cards from the beneficiaries as proofs of residential address. They created fake medical certificates in the name of the beneficiaries. They also created fake letterheads and discharge summaries in the names of Sagar Hospital, Purnima Hospital, St Philomena’s Hospital, St John's Medical College, Mallya Hospital, Fortis Hospital, Aryan Multispeciality Hospital, Apollo Hospital, Narayana Hrudayalaya, Manasa Hospital, SLV Hospital, Lakshmi Speciality Hospital, Sakra World Hospital, Mother and Child Hospital in Bengaluru, Chirayu Hospital and Vatsalya Hospital in Kalaburagi and Yashodhara and Ashwini hospitals in Solapur. The fake documents were submitted for the relief funds.

Amoghappa created fake medical reports in the names of 20 beneficiaries from villages in Kalaburagi, Yadgir and Bagalkot districts. Kiran connived with Vijay Kumar from Hosadurga, Chitradurga district. The two collected Rs 20,000 each from eight beneficiaries and created documents. Shetty and Shankar plotted with Boregowda, Raju Gowda, Ningegowda, Syed and Desilinga and fake reports were created in the name of 16 beneficiaries from Maddur, Pandavapura, KR Pet taluks in Mandya district, said the police.

The Vidhana Soudha police registered 54 cases after the scam came to light in 2015. The case was handed over to the CID on January 30, 2016. A team of four DySPs and four police inspectors was constituted for the investigation.
