The wife of a Rashtrapati Bhavan employee committed suicide by hanging herself in a servants’ quarter on the campus on Thursday morning, police said.

She was apparently disturbed over her health condition.

The deceased has been identified as Srimaya, a 51-year-old Nepali national. Her husband Arsh Bahadur Singh is employed as a senior household attendant at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Srimaya was found hanging in the toilet of her house at around 11.30 am.

“A PCR van rushed to the spot and took her to Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, where she was declared brought dead,” a senior police official said, adding that no suicide note was found at the house.

Her husband was not at home at the time of the incident. “He had left for work at around 9 am on Thursday,” the official added.

Police said the woman was suffering from some skin disease and allegedly took the extreme step due to depression.

The body was handed over to Arsh Bahadur after post-mortem.
