The syndicate of Mangalore University has decided to refer the issue of trimming H Nagaveni’s Gandhi Banda, a non detailed book prescribed for BA students of Mangalore University, to the board of studies in Kannada.
To a query, Mangalore University Vice-Chancellor Prof T C Shivashankaramurthy said that Kannada Teachers Association had given a representation to further abridge the novel for academic purposes as they were finding it difficult to complete the portion within a semester.
The novel has already been reduced from the original 365 pages to 190 pages before prescribing it as textbook. The representation has asked the University to reduce it further 30-40 pages, so that atleast six to eight hours class will be reduced.
In fact, the Board of Studies have been asked to see that the basic characteristcs of the novel is not affected.
