DTC readies its AC bus fleet to face summer

With summer round the corner, the Delhi Tarnsport Corporation is conducting a special ‘crash course’ for proper maintenance of its entire fleet, apart from the usual mainteneance work.

Several complaints were received on malfunctioning air conditioners in buses last summer, apart from frequent breakdowns of the non-AC low-floor buses.

DTC has issued a circular outlining the standard procedure to be followed by its maintenance staff. “As part of the crash course, special engineers will conduct maintenance checks thoroughly as per the standard drill defined in the circular,” said Sharat Kumar, DTC spokesperson.

The special maintenance drive, which started earlier this month, has to be completed by March 31.

Depot and regional managers will monitor the drive, and it will be the responsibility of regional managers  to ensure that the entire fleet is checked.

“A certificate of having attended to all the vehicles will be given by regional managers on March 31,” Kumar added.

The rate of breakdown of DTC  buses also rose sharply last year, causing inconvenience for passengers as well as loss of revenue.

A DTC official said the rate of breakdowns is much higher in summer than in other months.
