Smart grid, the future of electricity network: SAP

SAP--IT infrastructure management company, is of the belief that Smart electricity grids are the way of the future and in this connection they recently showcased their model of the Smart City, equipped with their Smart Meter.

The European Commission Smart Grids Task Force defines a Smart Grid as “an electricity network that can cost-efficiently integrate the behaviour and actions of all users connected to it –generators, consumers, and those that do both – in order to ensure economically an efficient, sustainable power system with low losses and high levels of quality and security of supply and safety.”

This Smart Meter will not only monitor your energy consumption, but will also tell you which appliance contributes how much of your energy bill. All these devices will be connected to the Smart Meter through SAP’s infrastructure technology. Controlled by permanent data transfer of SAP Smart Meter Readers, all energy capacity information would be forwarded to the consumer devices.

The company is in talks with the local governments regarding the implementation of the smart grid and hopes to come up with such a city in future.
