Remote eyes to track criminals in tier-II cities

Last Updated 25 March 2012, 19:06 IST

Six districts will be brought under surveillance cameras by June 2012 to streamline traffic management and keep an eye on crime and criminals in tier-2 cities, DG&IGP Shankar Bidari said.

In the next three months, Bellary, Belgaum and Gulbarga cities will be brought under camera surveillance in 45 locations. Last year, Surveillance system was set up in Mangalore, Hubli and Shimoga cities. The visuals captured by these cameras will help take action against violators and regulate traffic besides keeping a tab on criminal activities. In due course, the number of locations under surveillance will be increased in all these places, he added.

Blackberry-driven paperless traffic rules enforcement  will be extended to the entire State, making Karnataka the first State in the country to do so.
