Youth dies in mishap

A call centre employee died in an accident near the Jaraganahalli arch, on the Kanakapura Main Road Saturday midnight. 

Harish, 22, a resident of Shivashakti Nagar worked in a call centre. He was riding pillion on his friend Yeshwanth Kumar’s motorcycle. 

A speeding car hit the bike from behind and in turn the bike rammed into an electricity pole. Both Harish and Yeshwanth Kumar were grievously injured. 

Mallikarjun, the car driver, tried to take Harish to the hospital, but Harish died on the way. Mallikarjun deserted both the vehicle and the body.

On Sunday morning, he surrendered at the Kumaraswamy Layout Traffic Station. A case has been registered and Mallikarjun has been taken into custody. 

Yeshwanth Kumar, who was riding the two-wheeler has been hospitalised and his condition is said to be stable.

Man thrashed

A 30-year-old man was thrashed by a mob for attempting to rape a 10-year-old girl at Rampura village in Channapatna. The accused Venkatagiri, who was drunk, lifted the girl and took her to a nearby bush when she was returning home after disposing of garbage. 

On hearing the girl’s cries, four villagers rushed to the spot and freed the girl from his clutches. They dragged him to the road, by which time more people had gathered. 

The accused was thrashed by the angry mob. An injured Venkatagiri was rushed to a hospital where he was declared out of danger. 

The police have registered a case.
