Rego gets Pa Go award

‘Vijaya Karnataka’ Kannada daily Reporter Steven Rego has been honoured with prestigious ‘Pa. Go. (Padyana Gopalakrishna) Rural Reporting Award- 2011’,in a formal function organised by Dakshina Kannada District Working Journalists’ Association at Mangalore Press Club Auditorium on Monday. 

Speaking after presenting the award, chief guest of the function, Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy President Umanatha Kotian opined that, journalism has the capacity to bring change in any field. Journalists have the responsibility of highlighting the good and bad around them. 

Steven Rego has got the award for his special report on river Nandini- ‘Nandini Mayavaguva Munna…’ which was published in ‘Vijaya Karnataka’ on October 31, 2011. Two among the three judges of the award- Journalist Paramananda Salian and Journalist and Teacher Nandagopal have opined that the report has been considered as the best in terms of its language, continuity, impact, theme and statistics.  Steven Rego thanked ‘Vijaya Karnataka’ Resident Editor Kumarnath and other staff members. The award includes Rs 5,000 cash award along with the certificate and memento. Shri Kshetra Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari Dr D Veerendra Heggade has sponsored the prize money. 

Wife of Late Padyana Gopalakrishna Savitri, Parents of Steven Rego- Ignatius Rego and Ilda  Rego, Dakshina Kannada District Working Journalists’ Association President P B Hariprasad Rai, Chief Secretary and others were present.
