22 gram panchayats heading towards water crisis

Zilla Panchayat President Shantheyanda Ravi Kushalappa directed the officials to supply water using tankers to the residents of Madikeri taluk. 

Speaking at Taluk Panchayat Karnataka Development Programmes (KDP) review meeting here on Tuesday, he said all the work related to drinking water should be completed at the earliest.

Helpline has already been set up in taluk panchayat office and the officials should respond to the problems of the consumers. 

He said as many as 22 gram panchayats are already heading towards water crisis in Madikeri taluk. The issue should be discussed with the ZP and the TP members. He said the government has released only Rs four lakh to take up work related to water projects in Madikeri taluk. With the amount, no new projects can be taken up. The fund should be utilised for developing water sources. 

Zilla Panchayat CEO N Krishnappa said “every individual should be supplied with 55 litre water. Officials said that 21 work related to water project has been taken up in Madikeri taluk. Of which, 13 work in Napoklu, Koorli, Maragodu, Parane, Kooranabane have been completed.

Remaining nine work are in final stage. All measure will be taken to supply water at the earliest. 

BEO N Sridharan said that the work on 22 classrooms have been taken up in the taluk, of which, 13 have been completed. 

ZP Chief said that the honourarium paid for the ASHA workers will be hiked. Responding to this health officer Ravindra said that taluk has 91 ASHA workers while the posts of 21 workers are lying vacant. 

The minimum qualification of ASHA worker is seventh standard. After training them for one and half months, they would be appointed. 

He said the posts of six nurses are lying vacant in the taluk.
