Metro staff, vendors to get passes for better security

Last Updated 27 March 2012, 20:28 IST

In a bid to step up security arrangements similar to that at the airport, Delhi Metro would soon constitute a centralised cell to issue passes to the housekeeping staff and vendors moving in the paid and the unpaid areas of the Metro premises.

The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) – the paramilitary force manning the Metro premises had suggested the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to constitute a special cell on the lines of airport to streamline the mechanism of issuing passes.

“The present mechanism to issue passes to any unauthorised person is not foolproof. Once the cell becomes operational, the passes issued would have all the details of the person like photograph and other information,” said a senior CISF official.

The official added that the DMRC has given its nod to the proposal. According to sources, the centralised pass cell is likely to come up at Barakhamba station.

However, metro officials contended that there is no loophole in the present system of issuing passes.

‘Mechanism not foolproof’

“It would be wrong to say that the present mechanism is not foolproof. All housekeeping staff members are issued valid passes from their organisations. Even vendors and their staff members follow the same process. However, we keep updating the mechanism as per the requirement,” said a Delhi Metro spokesperson.
